Temples

The incenses burn filling the shrine with a foggy perfume.  Candles illuminated the windowless-room.   The priests brought forth gifts for the sun god Re, the head god.

This is what it was like in most ancient Egyptian temples.   Temples were the center point in most Egyptian cities.  Even the pharaoh came to the temple to worship the gods.  A lot of  the temples were devoted to worshiping a single god, however some were devoted to worshiping all gods.  Gifts were given to the gods to keep them happy or a request a specific favor.

Afterlife

Rows of mourners lined the street as they watched a death parade.   Brought along by the marchers were all of the recently decect pharaohs worldly possessions and other things to be used in the afterlife.  The afterlife was where Egyptians believed the decect went. Once in the underworld called Duat the souls of the dead were faired across the River of Souls. Then they had to pass through a maze filled with monsters and other perils. To help them escape the monsters they were given the book of the dead. In this book was written spells to defeat the monsters. At the end of their journey in the presence of Osiris and 75 other gods his heart was weighed against a feather by Anubis. If it was balanced then the pharaoh had lived a good life and went to live with the gods. If it was heavier then the Devourer, a monster that is part crocodile, part hippo, and part lion, ate his heart. The afterlife was said to be just like life on Earth.
