Homo Sapiens Sapiens
Homo sapiens sapiens (HO-mo
SAY-pee-enz SAY-pee-enz) lived on every continent except
Antarctica. They lived from 40,000 years ago to the present. H. sapiens sapiens knew how to use tools and fire. They used fire for warmth and for cooking. These people also used fired clay pots for cooking. They developed new tools such as the bow that made them better hunters, and other tools that made them better gatherers. |

These hominids had taller thinner bodies than
earlier species. They had skulls that were much like ours. Their jaws were
smaller than earlier hominids and so were their teeth. H. sapiens sapiens began to develop art in their clothing, jewelry, and the decoration of cave walls. They drew animals and how the seasons changed on cave walls. They used animal teeth, shells, and pieces of bone to decorate themselves. These people lived in groups in one place for long periods of time. They developed communities or villages. They planted seeds and raised animals for food. Homo sapiens sapiens developed into modern humans. |
