Football
Rugby, called "rugger" today, is a mixture of soccer and American football. In fact, American football came from English rugby. Rugby is played in over 100 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, England, France, Italy, Fiji, and South Africa. Rugby originated in Britain in 1823 by mistake. The first Rugby Cup was in 1987. It was played by many teams. The second was in 1995 played by two teams. Rugby was played only as an amateur sport until 1995. Today there are two leagues in England: 1. Professional (paid) 2. Amateur (not paid). |
