Definitions

Carabeiners are types of snap links.  They secure the climber to the rope.

Pitons are specially-made metal pegs used in rock climbing.  You pound them in the rock so you can climb hand over hand, but never attach directly to a rope.

Piton hammer is used to pound in pitons.  It is heavier than a normal hammer.  The face of the hammer is square.   Just the head weighs one pound.

Bongs are pitons, but for larger cracks.

Hexes are made to fit into cracks in the rocks.  Perlon cords go through the holes in hexes.

Crampons are put on the botton of your shoes.    They are spikes made out of metal.  You can't find a perfect fit easily.
