SNOWBOARDING HISTORY
1963- Tom Sims makes first
ski-board. 1965- Sherman Poppen invents snurfer, a simple board with a handle attatched. 1970- Dimitrije Milovich turns snurfer into snowboard. 1973- Dimitrije gets patent for snowboard. 1975- Dimitrije establishes Winterstick Snowboards (a company) in Utah. 1977- Mike Olsen builds snowboard in workshop. 1978- Dimitrije sold the snowboard in 16 different countries. 1982- Paul Graves organizes NSF (National Snowboarding Foundation) Championship. 1985- Mt. Baker hosts a snowboarding competition called "Mt. Baker Legendary Slalom." 1986- Europeans begin to organize their own regional events. 1987- Chuck Barfoot designs first twin-tip freestyle shape. |
