History of Skydiving
A man named Leonardo da Vinci made the first parachute blueprints. Two hundred years later, a French man called Andre Ques Ganerin made a silk parachute and jumped off a building. He called it "a new way to escape a burning building."In 1908, an American named Leo Stevens made a parachute that could be stuffed in a pack. In 1910 a woman named "Tiny" Broadwick was the first person to jump from an airplane. In 1933, at an air show on Long Island, U.S.A., parachutists decided to form an Association. Joe Crane decided to call it the National Parachute Jumping Association (NPJA). The first world championship of parachuting competition was held in the United States at Orange, Massachusetts, in 1962. | |
