The Briarwood E.L. Museum Site
Have
you visited any kid-created museums online? The Briarwood E.L. Museum Site is
one! The Briarwood Enhanced Learning Center is one of six elementary centers for gifted students in the Shawnee Mission School District, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. High ability students in kindergarten through 6th grade, from six different elementary schools, attend the center one day a week. While in the center, students work on individual projects in their talent area, as well as group projects. One group projects this year was a web museum. Students began by studying museums, then brainstormed topics for a museum. The first step in creating the museum was researching the information in books, magazines, and online sites. Next, rough drafts and illustrations were created. Final copies were completed and illustrations were photographed with a digital camera. Students used Front Page to create museum web sites that would be appealing to visitors of all ages. The topics chosen by the E.L. students were Hominids, Extreme Sports, Unexplained
Mysteries, Cars, and Africa. Visit each of these sites to learn more! |
