Hominids: Humans of Long Ago

Hominids are humanlike creatures.  Scientists divide the hominid family into two genera: Australopithecus is the oldest known, and Homo is the youngest.  Within each genus there are several species and subspecies of hominids.  We will look at Australopithecus and three of the Homo species: Homo erectus, Homo sapiens neanderthalensis, and Homo sapiens sapiens.  (This picture is an example of what a Neanderthal would have looked like.)
